A Memorization Schedule

These next 16 weeks of university are going to some of the most insane and wickedly busy weeks I shall live through. The final semester of nursing school and information and tests are swirling around your head. I find I can get lost and become tightly wound. To counteract all the hubbub I have determined to memorize Psalm 104, approximately 2 verses a week.

I have a desire to remember that no matter what I am learning, no matter where my life leads, I want to keep my focus on the Lord and keep Him as my center point. Without Him none of what I am undertaking means anything.

Last week I began with the first three verses of the Psalm:

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: Who maketh the clouds His chariot: Who walketh upon the wings of the wind.

Whilst memorizing these verses I find that the phrase, “Bless the Lord, O my soul. O God, thou art very great,” will go round my head at random times. What does it mean to bless the Lord? And that directed toward my soul. The Lord is MY God and He is very great. This lends to it a sensation of awe. He is all-powerful. He is incomprehensible. There are no words to measure the greatness He exudes. For me this gives me another way to comprehend how I bless the Lord with my soul. To “bless,” means to glorify…..to extol as holy. God is the embodiment of all that is holy and worthy of glory. When I bless Him, I am glorifying Him with my entire being – Mind……Soul……Body……Spirit……everything that makes up me. He is my Creator and He is the Lord of my life. Why would I not take time to worship and honour Him?
